On Tuesday, September 4, 2012, a meeting was held between several youth group members of “Desert Flower” and a Polish group “Piyevci Lednica” from Lednica (located near Poznan). The meeting took place at the monastery of the Little Brothers of Jesus Caritas in Nazareth, at the initiative of Benny and with the translation of Fr. Roman from Haifa. The Polish group was led by Góra Jan with a local Franciscan guide from Mt. Tabor..

During the meeting, the two groups grew closer by presenting one another. The Polish group claimed the role of the organizers of the annual “Lednica Spotkanie M?odych” (Youth Gathering in Lednica) event, which seeks inspiration in order to “spice up” the event with joy, happiness, energy and a spiritual aura that is similar to the one that is present in the Jewish holiday of “Simchat Torah”. The annual event is held in Lednica and it becomes the destination for approximately 100,000 pilgrims from all over Poland. There, all present join as one in prayer, Eucharistic adoration reading the Bible and similar activities. The location itself holds historical importance, since it is the place of the baptism of Poland by Duke Mieszko in the year 966.

Several questions were raised during the meeting, inquiring about the source of spiritual strength of the Catholic youth in Israel, the reasons for participating in the youth group, and in what way events like “World Youth Day” and a week in Taize strengthen our spirit and belief.

Once the enquiry phase was over, “Desert Flower” was invited to the event with great warmth. Likewise, the Polish group was invited to visit Israel again. Later, “Desert Flower” performed the song “Shir ha-Maalot” for the Polish, and in return heard one of the original songs that can be heard in the Lednica event. Also “Kol dodi” and “Abba Otche” were performed; Góra Jan was the original composer and writer of the “Abba Otche” song, a fact that surprised us all.

Both of the groups are eager to stay in touch, and expressed sincerest wishes for cooperation and maintaining a contact for future events. We all hope that this is the beginning of a fruitful relationship which will strengthen us in faith and help us all fulfill the will of God.
