Population statistics on eve of Independence Day 2012


The Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics published the new population census on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, on the eve of the 64th Independence Day of the State of Israel.

Today, there are 7.8 million Israelis, the population having grown at a rate of 1.8% over the past year. 75.3% of the population is Jewish (5 931 000) and of this population more than 70% are native born (“sabras”). 20.6% of the population is Arab (made up of a majority of Muslims, with Christian and Druze minorities). 4.1% of the population is defined as “Others” – being neither Jewish nor Arab and most being Russian speakers by origin. 28% of the Israeli population is under 14 years old.
