New bishop in Amman


During these days, the Catholics in Amman are welcoming the new bishop, Patriarchal Vicar in Amman, Monsignor Maroun Lahham, who arrives from Tunis, capital of Tunisia.

Msgr. Maroun Lahham, a son of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, arrived in Amman yesterday, February 22, and he was received at the airport by the heads of the Church in Jordan, by government officials and by many faithful. Tomorrow, Friday, February 24, 2012, he will celebrate his first mass as bishop in Amman in the presence of Patriarch Fouad Twal, his vicars, the other members of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries in the Holy Land, the heads of the other Christian Churches and representatives of the Jordanian government. The mass will be celebrated at 10.00 in the morning in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Msgr. Lahham, of Palestinian origin and born in Jordan in 1948, served as Archbishop in Tunis from 2005.
