Brother Emile from Taizé is on a visit to the Middle East and is spending a few days in Jerusalem to connect with friends of the ecumenical monastery in France.

The Taizé prayer has become a part of the life of the Saint James Vicariate in the past year. An hour of prayer with Taizé’s music takes place regularly and attracts many young people from among the Hebrew speaking faithful as well as students and volunteers in Jerusalem. Benny from the Vicariate community and Brother Alberto from Jaffa have been the main organizers of the prayer and they collaborate with the Salesian seminarians, who organize the prayer at Ratisbonne too.

This time, on Thursday, November 24, 2011, the prayer was special because of the presence of Brother Emile, an envoy of the monastery, who is travelling around the Middle East in these days. His presence brought a number of Jewish friends of Taizé to the Vicariate, including Rabbi Levy of the Kol HaNeshama synagogue and his wife, Paula, who are old friends of Taizé.

The Saints Simeon and Anne chapel in the Vicariate was full of young people, who spent an hour in intense prayer, silence and song. Among those present were a few of the members of the youth group “Desert Flower”, who had the first experience of Taizé prayer during the World Youth Day in Madrid.
