Mgr. Tagle was recently named the new archbishop of Manila, capital of the Philippines, thus becoming one of the most influential churchmen in his country. The pilgrimage to the Holy Land, which he led was also the occasion for a number of Filipino Knights of the Holy Sepulcher to accompany him. The Knights of the Holy Sepulcher are a group of Catholics who are particularly involved in supporting the works of the Latin Patriarchate.

On Monday, October 31, 2011, the group of pilgrims had mass with the Archbishop in the Co-Cathedral of the Latin Patriarchate and then met with the Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal, who spoke with them about the Chuirch in the Holy Land. Following the larger meeting, Archbishop Tagle and the Knights met for more in depth discussions with the Patriarch and with the Vicar for the Hebrew speaking Catholics in the diocese, Father David Neuhaus. This was the occasion to describe for them the situation of the more than 40 000 Filipinos who live in Israel as migrant workers.
