Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Custos of the Holy Land and superior of the Franciscans, celebrated an early morning mass in front of the tomb of Christ on October 6, 2011, during the course of which two Franciscan brothers, Sergio from Italy and Sergey from Russia made their final profession. Many members of the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities were present because they befriended Sergey during his years of service in the Hebrew speaking community in Jerusalem.

The peak of the prayer service was when the two monks repeated the formula of their vows, entrusting their lives to the Lord and to the service of His Church. The large crowd present accompanied the two with their prayers. The crowd was made up of many seminarians, members of family, friends, men and women religious and laity from the different parts of he Church of Jerusalem – Arabic speakers, Hebrew speakers and pilgrims.

We congratulate our brother Sergey and his brother Sergio and wish them many years of activity and joy in the service of the Lord and His Church.
