On September 8, 1939, the congregation of the Little Sisters of Jesus was founded by Little Sister Madeleine of Jesus. She saw herself as following in the spiritual footsteps of the French Catholic hermit, Blessed Charles de Foucauld. A few years later, Little Sister Madeleine accompanied her sisters to the Holy Land and established communities both in Israel and in the Palestinian Territories. Since their foundation in Israel, the Little Sisters have been involved in the life of the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities and have left their mark.

On September 7, 2014, the Jerusalem kehilla celebrated the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the congregation. Prayers of thanksgiving were offered during the mass as well as a fervent prayer for vocations to the congregation. After the customary reception, the members of the kehilla gathered to watch a short audio-visual presentation of the life of Little Sister Madeleine and her mission. There was a time for questions and answers as well as reminiscences of meetings with Little Sister Madeleine that ended this evening of thanksgiving!
