Israeli priest named to Roman Rota


Pope Benedict XVI has named an Israeli expert on the Church in the Holy Land as prelate judge of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota. The appointment of Franciscan Father David Jaeger was announced on May 9, 2011.

Father David Jaeger, a well known canon lawyer, is professor in Rome as well as consultor for the Congregations for Eastern Churches and for the Clergy, and the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts. He has served as an advisor to the Vatican in the negotiations with the State of Israel.

Father Jaeger, an Israeli Jew by origin, was born in Tel Aviv in 1955 and became a Christian in his late teens. He was ordained a Franciscan priest in 1986.

Ties of friendship link him with the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities and we wish him Mazl tov and much success in his work.
