Cardinal Sandri at the Latin Patriarchate


On Friday, October 20, 2017, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation of Oriental Churches in the Holy See, visited the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

Cardinal Sandri, accompanied by the substitute for the Apostolic Delegate, Father Marco Formica, was received at the gates of the Patriarchate by Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Patriarchate, Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Vicar for Palestine, Father Hanna Kaldani, Vicar for Israel, Father Rafic Nahra, priest-in-charge of the Saint James Vicariate and other priests of the Patriarchate.

After a brief prayer, Cardinal Sandri addressed the gathered priests, religious men and women, consecrated people and others. He offered words of strong encouragement for the important mission of the Church in the Holy Land and stressed the role of the Church’s institutions, many of them directed by the religious, schools, hospitals, homes for the elderly and the handicapped, etc. He also pointed to the importance of the witness of the religious in pointing to the Kingdom of God in the midst of the violence and conflict that continues to engulf the Middle East.

After his address, there was a short time to ask questions and to congratulate the Cardinal on the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination.
