The great project of the researcher of the Bible, Avraham Ahuvyah, has stimulated an interesting discussion about the status of the Bible in Israeli society. The veteran teacher of the Bible discovered that many Hebrew speaking Israelis are not able to understand the Bible in the sacred language and thus began his project – to reproduce (in fact to translate) the Bible into an understandable and modern language. According to the publicity promoting the first volume of the translation, including the five books of the Pentateuch:

“ The aim of this project is to bring the public closer to the book of books of the Jewish people, that has been translated into many languages, and to produce it now, within a unique project, in the language of our day. The text that is produced in modern Hebrew is neither a rewriting of the Biblical stories nor an abbreviation of them. It is also not meant to replace the original Biblical text. Therefore, we have divided each page into two columns: on the right hand side, the Biblical text and opposite each verse of the Bible is presented the “translation” of the same verse in simple, clear and understandable language.

TaNaKh Ram is appropriate for pupils of all ages, beginning with those in the lowest classes, who are having difficulty dealing with reading and have even more difficulty reading the Biblical text and understanding it. Older pupils and new immigrants as well as amateur Biblical readers will derive benefit and even pleasure from this enlightening and precise “translation”.

TaNaKh Ram will be presented in four volumes, the first of which includes Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The work of “translation” was done by means of the art of Avraham Ahuvyah, an educator and Biblical researcher. He was a teacher for many years and an inspector working for the Ministry of Education. He has written tens of articles in Biblical research and the language of the Bible as well as the full commentary on the Bible that is distributed to soldiers in the army.

TaNaKh Ram is a daring and revolutionary project. It has national value and its educational component is enormous.
