Reception for the Christian feasts at the President's Residence


On Wednesday, December 29, 2010, the Israeli State President Shimon Peres hosted the heads of the Christian communities in order to wish them a happy holiday. The event took place in the State President's Residence.

This year too, like every year, the State President of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, received the heads of the Christian communities in the official residence of the President in order to wish them and all Christian faithful in the country a happy holiday and a blessed new year. Alongside the President, on the platform, were seated Greek Orthodox Patriarch Theophilos III, Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal, the representative on the Armenian Patriarch, Archbishop Nourhan, the Custodian of the Holy Land, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa and Greek Catholic Archbishop of Galilee Elias Chacour. The reception hall was filled to capacity with clerics from all the diverse communities and Israeli officials who work with Christians. Father David represented the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities.

In his speech, the State President explained his reasons for being optimistic about the peace process and asked the heads of Christian communities to pray for peace, "the only option for both peoples". In his response , Patriarch Theophilos thanked the authorities for all that they do to make Christian life easier and added that there was always room for more improvements. He emphasized that these events help to improve relations among the different communities in the country.
