Jerusalem kehilla in the Church of the Resurrection in Lent

Father Rafic reports on a mass that was celebrated at the place of the crucifixion for the members of the Jerusalem kehilla on Friday, March 31, 2017.

golgotha mass

On Friday, March 31, a week after the mass that was celebrated at the Lithostrotos (in the Ecce Homo Church), members of the Jerusalem kehilla participated in the mass that was celebrated in the Church of the Resurrection (Holy Sepulcher), on the altar consecrated to Our Lady of Sorrows, next to the rock of Golgotha, where Christ was crucified. Some other faithful joined us – noteworthy, a member of the Jaffa kehilla, who was celebrating his birthday and found this beautiful way to commemorate his special day. As is usual in this place, we celebrated the mass with no songs. I thought to myself that it was a pity we could not sing in this place. However, after the mass, I realized that the lack of songs allows the participants to focus even more on the words that are being said, especially the words which are fully accomplished in this very place: “This is my body given up for you” and “this is my blood, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins”.
