Towards the Synod: Vatican Radio in Hebrew

During the Synod of the Catholic Church in the Middle East, which will convene in Rome from October 10 to 24, 2010, Vatican Radio, in collaboration with the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land and the Hebrew Speaking Catholic Vicariate in Israel, will publish coverage in Hebrew too.

For the first time, the official radio of the Vatican will inaugurate an internet page in Hebrew. Hana Bendcowsky, a Jewish Israeli, researcher of Christianity and active in teaching about Christianity to Jews, began her work at Vatican Radio in order to facilitate easy access for Hebrew speakers to what is happening in the Synod. Hanna is working in collaboration with Father David Neuhaus, Vicar for the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities in Israel, who is in Rome for the Synod proceedings.

There is a small group of Hebrew speakers among the Synod fathers and they include, aside from Father David, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Franciscan Custodian of the Holy Land, Father Paul Colin, Chaldean Patriarchal Vicar in Jerusalem, emeritus Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Michel Sabbah and Galilee Greek Catholic Archbishop Elias Chacour. Among the experts there are also some Hebrew speakers like Father Elias Daw, head of the Greek Catholic ecclesiastical courts in Israel, Father Salim Sousan of the Maronite Church and Father Peter Madrous of the Latin Patriarchate.
