Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel represented at the Synod


On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, the Vatican published the list of participants appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to the Synod of Bishops for the Catholic Church in the Middle East. Among the members of the Synod, the Holy Father has named Father David Neuhaus, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for the Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel.

Five days before the beginning of the Synod that will begin next Sunday, October 10, 2010, in Rome, the Vatican has published the list of members, experts and auditors named by the Pope. The list of 16 members named to join the bishops includes: Cardinal Angelo Sodano, dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, from the Ukraine, Cardinal Walter Kasper, president emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal John Foley, grand master of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Michel Sabbah, retired Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal, Syro-Malankar archbishop from India, Archbishop Cyril Vasil, secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches and Father David Neuhaus, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Hebrew-speaking Catholics in Israel.

In addition the Pope named 36 experts from around the Middle East and abroad, including 11 from the Holy Land and among them: Franciscan Father Claudio Giovanni Bottini, dean of Flagellation Biblical Faculty, Father Frans Bouwen, editor of the magazine "Proche?Orient Chretien", Father Elias Daw, president of the ecclesiastical court of appeal of the Greek-Melkite Catholic Church, Israel, Jesuit Father Peter du Brul, founder of the department for religious studies at Bethlehem University, Salesian Father Pier Giorgio Gianazza, Monsignor Rafiq Khoury, pastor of Bir Zeit, Father Peter Madrous, Franciscan Father Frédéric Manns, Franciscan Sister Telesphora Pavlou, Monsignor Salim Soussan, Maronite vicar general, and Dominican Father Guy Tardivy.

Finally, the list included 34 auditors, including five from the Holy Land.
