Issue of the children of foreign workers

The Hebrew language internet news site, YNET, published an extensive special report about the children of foreign workers who are threatened with expulsion from Israel. Some of these children are linked to our communities.

In these days, the Israeli government is discussing the fate of about 1200 children of foreign workers in Israel. Some of these children, whose parents are originally from the Philippines, Africa, India, Latin America and Eastern Europe, are linked to our communities because they participate in catechism lessons given by people from Vicariate or in our annual children's summer camps for Hebrew speaking Catholic children. It should be pointed out that many of these 1200 children are born in Israel, speak Hebrew as a first language and see themselves as fully Israeli. Their parents have been in the country for many years and contribute their part to society in providing essential services with great commitment.

YNET, a Hebrew language, internet news service, published a broad survey on the subject of these children and their fate. Let us pray that God pours out His Holy Spirit on those who must decide the fate of these children and that their decisions be wise, compassionate and humane.
