The Pope blesses the kehillot

Franciscan deacon Oscar Mario Marzo, who lives in Saints Simeon and Anne House in Jerusalem, writes to us about his participation in the visit of the Pope to Cyprus.

Last week, I was graced to be in Cyprus for the visit of the Holy Father. On Saturday, June 5, I was asked to serve as deacon at the mass at which the Pope presided in the Church of the Holy Cross in Nicosia. This was a celebration for priests, men and women religious who work in Cyprus.

At the end of the celebration, those who had served at the mass had the possibility to greet the Pope personally although it must be said that he seemed quite exhausted. When my moment arrived, the only words I said were: “Holiness, I carry a greeting from the Hebrew speaking community in Jerusalem”. It was quite clear that at that moment I was carrying in my heart all the kehillot of the Vicariate. When the Pope heard these words, he was instantly radiant and he manifested his joy and gratitude. It was wonderful to see that the Pope knew very well who I was speaking about. He then said: “Carry my blessing to the community”. In short, the mention of our kehillot made the Holy Father happy.

I take this opportunity to invite all the members of the kehillot to my priestly ordination, which will take place on Tuesday, June 29 at 9.30 in the parish church of Saint Savior (New Gate). The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal will preside the celebration. I ask all those who cannot be present to accompany me with their prayers.

Fraternally,
Fra Oscar
