Twenty second meeting of the CPAM


On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, members of the Coordination of the Pastoral Among Migrants met at the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem to discuss the Church’s work with the migrants and asylum seekers.

Present at the meeting were members of the Filipino, Indian, Sri Lankan, Sudanese and Rumanian chaplaincies, priests and sisters, a representative of the prison ministry team, those working with the Israeli NGOs and the Bedouin and the parish priest of Tiberias. The opening prayer was based on words of Pope Francis at the canonization ceremony of Mother Teresa.

After a round of introductions, during which new members were introduced, Emmy Saar from the Hotline for Refugees and Migrants presented a new project about raising awareness of the abuse of migrants in the work place. The CPAM committed to full collaboration on this project which is part of a struggle against conditions of slavery.

Among the many themes treated in the meeting were the following:
- the preparation for a day of prayer during Advent for all the chaplains and members of the CPAM,
- the preparation of the Day of Migrants on January 14, 2017 in Jaffa,
- a report on the summer activities for migrant children and youth,
- a report on the opening of Saint Rachel Center for children and youth in Jerusalem,
- a report on the state of the diocese and the ordination of Archbishop Pizzaballa,
- an invitation to participate in the Feast of Our Lady Queen of Palestine at Deir Rafat on October 30, 2017.

After the discussion, the participants shared news from the different communities.
