Archbishop Pizzaballa’s first mass in Cologno


On Sunday, September 11, 2016, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, celebrated his first mass as archbishop in the parish church of Cologno, close to Bergamo.

Surrounded by his family, friends and compatriots, Pizzaballa, who was born in the town, made a solemn entry, welcomed by hundreds of locals. More than 50 priests concelebrated the mass, which was followed by a reception and lunch.

Among the crowds was also a delegation from the Latin Patriarchate, led by Bishop Boulos Marcuzzo, Vicar for Israel. In the delegation were also Father David, responsible for the Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel and Dr. Rivka Karplus from the Jerusalem kehilla.
