Five excited toddlers were celebrated at Our Lady Woman of Valor Pastoral Center as they prepared to begin kindergarten at the beginning of September. The five toddlers, three children of Eritrean asylum seekers, one child of Indian migrant workers and one child of Sri Lankan migrant workers, have spent 11 hours a day six days a week in the family unit that is run by Ms. Dhang. One of the children, Dejan, has spent two years in this unit while the other four have spent one year. The sixth child, Essai, also an Eritrean, recently migrated with his family to Canada.

The importance of these family units run by the Catholic Church was again underlined a few days ago when another Eritrean family buried a baby who died in one of the “baby warehouses”, where overcrowded conditions and basic neglect put the lives of the babies in danger.

In the Church supported structures, administered in collaboration with the Israeli association, UNITAF, the babies are cared for, nurtured, well fed and stimulated so that when they enter the Israeli public education system, they will not be at a disadvantage when compared with other Israeli children.

Mazal tov to our little ones and may they succeed as they cross another important crossroad in their lives.
