The group reached Cracow after a night journey that took nine long hours. In Cracow, our beloved friend, Daniele, joined the group, she being one of its first members but she now lives in the United States.

We received very good rooms at the Franciscan hostel, not far from the center of Cracow.

On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, we went to visit the extermination camp of Auschwitz. We visited the camp, which symbolizes the suffering of the Jewish people during the Shoah and also the suffering of the Polish people under Nazi occupation. In this place millions of Jews, men, women and children perished and here too many Poles were murdered. In this place we prayed in silence and also repeated together the Way of the Cross.

In the evening, we joined hundreds of thousands of youth for the inaugural mass of the World Youth Day, celebrated by Cardinal Dziwicz, who had been the personal secretary of Pope John Paul II. The city is already full of youth from all over the world and it is a great joy to feel part of the body of Christ.
