YNET covered the gathering of elderly Polish Christians who saved Jews during the Second World War, risking their lives:

Tens of Christian Polish Righteous among the Nations gathered in Warsaw through the initiative of a Jewish foundation from New York that helps them financially in their old age. “We are happy that someone acknowledges and remembers what we did,” said the elderly, who hid Jews during the Shoah at the cost of risking their own lives.

Yad VaShem recognizes officially 6620 Poles as Righteous among the Nations, more than any other country that was conquered by the Nazis. This reflects the fact that Poland was home to the biggest Jewish community in Europe before the Shoah, a community that numbered more than 3.5 million people. The Foundation sends money to 450 people who saved Jews in 20 countries in the world, 238 of them in Poland. This is a sharp drop compared to 15 years ago when the Doundation supported 1850 people in 34 countries.
