Ge’ez rite Catholics welcome Holot inmates

On Saturday morning, July 2, 2016, at the weekly Ge’ez rite mass for the Eritrean Catholics in Our Lady Woman of Valor in Tel Aviv, the community welcomed a busload of inmates from Holot.

The Holot inmates arrived at mass after a long, tiring journey from the distant Negev. The community in Tel Aviv with their priest, Father Medhin, awaited the asylum seekers detained in Holot and welcomed them warmly. Their limited number of hours away from the detention facility allowed them to participate in a baptism of a child and also bid farewell to one of the most active members of the community, Sare’a, who has received permission to emigrate. The Church is most grateful to Sare’a for all his assistance to the community, to Father Medhin and for his teaching of the children who prepared for the receiving of the sacraments.
