On Saturday, June 18, our kehilla travelled for a trip to Ein Karem in order to visit the places connected to the person of John the Baptist, the patron of our kehilla. We began our visit to Ein Karem in the convent of the Sisters of Sion where we celebrated mass and ate our picnic lunch. Father Roman, in his homily, emphasized that John began his mission before his birth, when he was still in his mother’s belly, preparing Elizabeth and Mary, and perhaps Joseph and Zechariah too, for the coming of the savior. His hidden joy in the womb of his mother not only influenced Elizabeth but also all those who were present in the wondrous meeting between the two mothers.

After the picnic, we went to visit the two churches that are in the village, first the Church of the Visitation and then the Church of Saint John the Baptist. There we listened to the narratives from the New Testament and from the plaques hanging in the churches, we read the hymns of Mary and Zechariah.

By means of the trip, we were able to prepare ourselves for the Feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist, which will be celebrated in a few days time.
