Twenty first meeting of the CPAM

On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, members of the Coordination of the Pastoral Among Migrants met at the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem to discuss the Church’s work with the migrants and asylum seekers.

Present at the meeting were members of the Filipino, Indian, Sri Lankan, Maronite, Sudanese and Ge’ez rite chaplaincies, priests and sisters, a representative of the prison ministry team, those working with the Israeli NGOs and the Bedouin and the parish priests of Eilat and Tiberias. The opening prayer was based on words of Saint Francis of Assisi.

After a round of introductions, during which new members were introduced, news from the various communities was exchanged.
Following the presentation, the meeting continued with an agenda of important points for the coordination of the Church’s mission:

- a discussion of the implications of the stone throwing at mass attendants in Rehovot
- an evaluation of the days of recollection held during the year
- the weekly petitions sent out to the communities for inclusion at the Sunday masses
- activities during the summer months especially children camps
- the celebration of first communion and confirmation in the different communities

At the end of the discussion, those attending heard from Sister Gabriela Zinkl, a canon lawyer, who is working on a series of cases that involve marriage annulments in the migrant communities.
