Eve of Rosh HaShana: 7 465 500 Israelis

The Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, as is the custom, announced that on the eve of Rosh HaShana there were almost seven and a half million Israelis. The announcement was published on September 16, 2009.

In the announcement it was said that 5 634 300 of Israelis were registered as Jews, 1 513 200 were registered as Arabs and 318 000 as others (seemingly mostly immigrants from the former Soviet Union). The number of Christians (Arab and non Arab) was estimated at 153 100 at the end of 2008. The numbers do not include the foreign workers, estimated at 222 000 at the end of 2008.
