The momentous day began with a first mass in the morning, celebrated by Ge’ez rite chaplain, Father Medhin Yohannes. During the course of the mass, six children from the Eritrean community received first communion.

Later that day, in the mid-afternoon, at the Hebrew language mass, forty five children received first communion. The boys and girls dressed in white were very attentive throughout the mass and the church was crowded with their parents and friends as well as the youth who received confirmation at Pentecost as well as the other children in catechism class.

With this celebration, the religious education classes come to an end until the beginning of September. This is the time to thank the more than 140 children who attended the classes, their parents and the teachers who taught throughout the year, Sare’ and his time from the Ge’ez rite Eritrean community, seminarian Benny, who prepared the youth for confirmation, his assistant Minh, a salesian seminarian, Kirill, who taught the children who have received first communion and are not yet in confirmation class, and his assistant Yuhanna, Father David, who prepared the youngest children for first communion, assisted by Ms. Lerma and Ms. Fe. A special word of thanks to Ms. Bhea, without whose tireless work keeping track of the children and their parents this entire catechism would be almost impossible!
