Commission to plan pastoral work among the Russian speakers

Father David, responsible for the Hebrew speaking communities, initiated a new commission, a commission to plan pastoral work among Russian speakers. The commission began its work on Friday, September 11, 2009 at a first meeting in Jaffa.

The commission brings together those in the Hebrew speaking communities who are working with the Russian speakers in a pastoral capacity. The members of the commission are the three priests: Father Jan Hlavka, Father Roman Kaminski and Father Wieslaw Dabrowski, who has recently arrived in the country, and their lay assistants. Father David participates in all the sessions of the commission too.

Father David defined three initial objectives for the commission:

  1. To describe the actual situation in our communities and in the country so that we might understand who are the Russian speaking Christians in our communities and in the country.
  2. To describe the pastoral work that we already do among the Russian speaking Christian population and to plan what might be done for the Russian speaking Christians in the future.
  3. To deepen our understanding and consciousness with regard to the inalienable link between Hebrew and Russian speakers within the Vicariate.

The first meeting of the commission took place in an atmosphere of friendliness and interest. In the first meeting, the dates for the other meetings for the rest of the year were defined. We wish the commission much success in its work.
