Saving 669 children during Shoah

T. from the Haifa kehilla sent us this moving testimony regarding Nicholas Winton, who saved 669 children during the Shoah.

In 1939, Sir Nicholas Winton organized the operation that saved the lives of 669 Jewish children from the Nazi death camps, and in 1988, 50 years later, he met them again.

Nicholas Winton found shelter for children and organized their transport to the UK. The UK press called him the "British Schindler". For 49 years he kept this a secret.

This fact would have remained unknown, however Nicholas’s wife found his old notebooks with the names and photographs of the children. In this video, Sir Winton sits surrounded by people whom he saved 50 years before that day. His reaction is very touching.

In 2002, Queen Elizabeth II knighted him. In 2014, at the age of 105 years, he was awarded the highest award of the Czech Republic - the medal of the White Lion. On June 1, 2015, at the age of 106, Sir Nicholas Winton passed away.
