We join our voices to the prayers for Gilad Shalit
The abducted soldier Gilad Shalit, who has already spent more than three years un captivity in Gaza, celebrates his twenty third birthday according to the Jewish calendar. Our communities also pray for his health and his release.
At the celebration of the mass on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, the Jerusalem community prayed for the soldier Gilad Shalit and at that same time his family together with masses of Israelis prepared for the mass prayer assembly at the Western Wall that was due to begin at 19.00. In all our communities we regularly prayer for Gilad's health and release.
This is the prayer that was written especially for the mass prayer assembly by Rabbi Meir Lau.
May the one who blessed our fathers
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
Joseph, Moses and Aaron, David and Solomon,
Bless, keep and protect Gilad
Son of Aviva and Noam Shalit
Redeem him from his captors and return him in peace very soon.
For all the house of Israel is praying for him.
May the Holy One Blessed be He be filled with mercy for him
Strengthen him and annul his sorrow
Send him health of mind and body
And return him to the embrace of his family soon
And let us say Amen.
