Mekor Rishon: A new covenant

The Israeli national religious newspaper, “Mekor Rishon”, published a long article on the change in the Catholic Church with regard to the Jewish people in its Friday edition of April 8, 2016.

“A new covenant – it began more than fifty years ago with Nostra aetate – a declaration that absolved the Jews of the death of Jesus, continued with official visits in Israel and reached a situation of permanent dialogue with the Chief Rabbinate. Over the past decades, the Christian Church is trying to draw closer to Judaism and to atone for the crimes of the past. Will Judaism react to this?” This is how the article, written by journalist Yair Sheleg, begins.

Four people were interviewed in the article: Rabbi David Rosen, head of the Interreligious Council of the American Jewish Committee, Father David Neuhaus, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for the Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel, Oded Wiener, the coordinator of the Joint Committee of the Chief Rabbinate and the Holy See, and Professor Aviad Kleinberg, head of the School of History in Tel Aviv University.
