The community’s Lent

A member of the Latroun community shares on the Lenten experience of the Russian speaking Catholic community.

keep awake

The time of Lent is a time of prayer, confession and days of retreat. This year, the Latroun kehilla together with Father Wieslaw decided to do irregular days of retreat. This meant a communal fast. Whoever wanted to participate chose a particular day of the week and the degree of fasting – a fast of bread and water, abstaining from eating meat, support through intense prayer, formulating prayer intentions. These intentions were different for each day – on Monday for the needy, on Tuesday for peace and our families, on Wednesday for our kehilla and our priest, on Thursday for pregnant women and mothers, on Friday – the fast day of the whole Church, and on Saturday for the priests and men and women religious.

It was not easy, sometimes even quite difficult but now, looking back, it was at one and the same time an experience of great joy/

We are hopeful that our fasting helped our souls, our kehilla and the whole Church.
