Retreat Day in the Jaffa kehilla for Lent

On Saturday, February 27, 2016, members of the Jaffa kehilla arrived for a retreat day. One of the participants reports:

return prodigal

We began the day at 11.00 with something light to eat and drink and then entered into the lesson that Father Apolinary had prepared for us. We meditated together on the Gospel of Saint Luke, chapter 15: 11-32, the Parable of the Prodigal Son. We learnt more about the mercy of God, about our Father, who awaits each one of us, His children who have gotten lost.

We then went into Saint Peter’s Church for a time of quiet prayer and adoration.

We ate lunch and when the meal was over we continued to meditate on the gospel of the merciful Father. Each one of us tried to understand which verse God was addressing to us personally today? What was God trying to say to each one of us? How important it is to feel that God is with us, to read the Scriptures together.

Retreat days with the community help to bring us closer to God. They give us the opportunity to pray and think together about the Word of God. We ended the gathering with Benny, who is preparing the members of the community for the songs of the Lenten period.

At the end of the day, we celebrated mass in the prayer hall. There were even a few birthdays of members of the community to celebrate together so we could end the wonderful day with some delicious cakes.

Thank you Father Apolinary who ran this retreat day for our community.
