Peace corporal

Benedetto, seminarian in the Saint James Vicariate, sent a description of the corporal that Father Rafic and Benedetto himself developed.

corporal

In the Eastern Christian tradition, the consecration of the bread and wine takes places on a special cloth on which the body of the Lord Jesus is drawn, as it is laid in a sheet. The altar represents the tomb and the holy gifts, the living and eternal sacrifice.

At the end of 2015, a year of horrific shedding of blood and innumerable victims, in honor of the World Day of Peace with the Year of Mercy in the background, we had the idea of creating a special corporal which represents the places affected in the wars that are often forgotten.

The meaning of the symbols:
- the color red seeks to symbolize the spilt blood.
- the five crosses recall the wounds of Christ.
- the word “mercy”, written in the center, gives a voice to those who have no voice and yet cry out to the heavens.

You can see the corporal if you gently approach the altar in the Jerusalem kehilla from December 31, 2015.
