Retreat day to prepare for Christmas

Father Rafic, in charge of the Jeusalem kehilla, reports on a retreat day that took place on Saturday, December 19, 2015.

On Saturday, December 19, 2015, six days before Christmas, about twenty five members of the Jerusalem and Jaffa kehillot met for a retreat day in Ein Karem. We chose as a theme for our day of prayer and reflection this year the jubilee of mercy announced by Pope Francis for the entire Church. Father Alberto OFM taught us in the morning about the meaning of the jubilee according to chapter 25 in the Book of Leviticus and other parallel Biblical texts, especially Isaiah 61:1-3. In the afternoon, Sister Hani shared with us a method of reading the Word of God according to the way of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, and illustrated the method with a reading of the text in Luke 4:16-22. At the end of the gathering, we celebrated mass in the beautiful chapel of the monastery, which has been renovated in the past months. This gathering gave us the occasion not only to pray and study but also to enjoy our time together and taste the delicacies and sweets that some had prepared with great love. A special thanks to the Brothers and Sisters of Sion who opened their home to us.
