New Center for African asylum seekers in Jerusalem

On Thursday evening, December 10th, 2015, at Beit Yoel in Jaffa Road, Jerusalem, there was the official opening of Jerusalem African Community Center (JACC). Sisters Azezet and Agnese, and Elsabeth were present at the opening. Sister Agnese, secretary of the CPAM reports:

The Jerusalem African Community Center (R.A), incorporated as an NGO in 2014, is a community-based organization, led jointly by Israeli and African activists in Jerusalem. The JACC promotes quality of life and overall well-being for African migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Jerusalem.

Their projects include: Hebrew and English Language Lessons for adults; Humanitarian, Psychological and Social Aid; Right Awareness, Mediation and Support; and a Tutoring Program for elementary school children.

Their objectives are:
1. To create an empowering environment for the community and by the community that will nurture community leadership.
2. To create dialogue and neighborly relations between Africans and Israelis.
3. To build a center for the community, which would function as a place to meet, learn, celebrate cultural events, to develop leadership and to make decisions.
4. To provide knowledge with regards to occupational, medical, social and educational rights; and other issues where the need arises.
5. To operate programs that will provide an answer to needs in the fields of education, professional development, culture, art and leisure for adults.
6. To develop educational solutions for toddlers and children.
7. To provide psychological, social and financial aid with accordance to the needs that will rise from the community.

It was a good occasion for us to meet many committed Israelis and Africans who dedicate themselves, in their spare time, to reach out to the migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
