First mass in Afula

Father Bienvenido OFM, chaplain of the Nazareth Holy Family Filipino community, reports on the new community mass that began in Afula, on November 21, 2015.

afula mass

After some deliberations and with due permission, the Holy Family Filipino Community in Nazareth decided to have its first mass in Afula, in the evening of November 21, 2015. It is a need discerned by the community leaders for the sake of some Catholic caregivers in Afula, whether Filipinos or Indians, who cannot come to the anticipated Sunday mass of the community at Mensa Christi in Nazareth due to their inability to find relievers even for a couple of hours.

Unfortunately, we from Nazareth could not get a ride on time. Thus, due to the almost hour long delay at the apartment in Afula, some of the caregivers with their charges left for home. Only three of the them could remain. Nonetheless, we were still altogether some sixty persons in the hedged-in space below the apartment of two groups of Filipino migrants in Afula. The event served also as the monthly celebration of the birthday of two community members. A meal was served after the Mass.

From this date onward, we shall have Mass at Afula once a month, except in mid-winter when it would be too cold for us, especially for the elderly charges of the caregivers concerned. I appreciate very much our coordinator and his council’s sensitivity to the spiritual needs of some of their fellow caregivers at Afula.
