Charlotta Chorale celebrates Nostra Aetate
Nostra Aetate, the Second Vatican Council’s declaration on relations with the other religions was published on October 28, 1965. This event was celebrated in a concert of choral music on Saturday evening in Jaffa.
The audience composed of parishioners in the Hebrew and Spanish language masses, a group of Hebrew speaking Catholic youth gathered in Jaffa for the weekend as well as Jewish friends of the Chorale and many visitors to the church, enjoyed one hour of beautiful music including Panis Angelicus, Ave Maria and Ave Verum. A particularly touching moment was the singing of a hymn written for the synagogue and composed by Eli Geffen’s father “Tabernacle of Peace”.
The concert gave a concrete expression to the Church’s declaration which radically changed the attitude of the Church to the Jewish people.
