Prayer for Independence Day

This year Israel celebrates 60 years since independence. The Hebrew speaking Catholic communities will all pray a common prayer for the peace, welfare and development of the State and we publish this prayer here. This prayer will be read at the mass for the feast of Pentecost on Sunday, May 11.

Prayer for Independence Day
(to be prayed at the mass for Pentecost, during the prayers of the faithful)

We thank you living and eternal God for the sixty years of independence of the State of Israel.

Our Father in heaven, Rock of Israel and Israel’s Redeemer, bless the State of Israel, protect it and spread over it and over all its neighbors the tent of Your peace. May peace increase more and more among all peoples so that there be no more hate, no more jealousy, no more competition and no more victory one over another, one over his neighbor.

Send Your light and Your truth to the heads of the State and give them Your wisdom so that they might lead the citizens of the State in the ways of justice and peace.

Send your Holy Spirit on all the residents of the State so that they might live in unity, in bonds of fraternity and devotion to each until we might gather together each one with his friend.

Help especially the weakest in the society to find their place, to find a way to make a living in dignity and uprightness.

All this we pray to you in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and our Lord who lives for ever. Amen.
