Christians schools demonstrate outside the Prime Minister’s Office

On Sunday, September 6, 2015, thousands of pupils and their parents demonstrated to protest the budget of the Christian schools.

The demonstration was attended by members of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries in the Holy Land, numerous members of Knesset, mayors and heads of local councils. The Christian schools in Israel are on strike since September 1, 2015, protesting the fact that the state has cut budgets to Christian schools. The speakers at the demonstration repeated the well known facts:

- the Christian schools in Israel are among the best in the country and are open to all segments of the population.

- the Christian schools in Israel receive state subsidies that amount to only 29% of their budget whereas ultra-Orthodox schools receive subsidies that account for 100% of their budgets.

Although only 33 000 pupils study in the Christian schools, accounting for only 4% of the Arab pupils in Israel, 30% of Arab university students have graduated from Christian schools.
