Italian Volunteers in Vicariate

From August 5 until 14, 2015, a small group of young Italian volunteers arrived in the Vicariate.

We are friends of Sister Claudia and Sister Sandra of the Ursuline Sisters of Saint Charles and we gladly accepted the invitation to spend just over one week in animating the summer activities with the children in the Vicariate. In order to contribute to the work of the volunteers, who alternate throughout the year, before our departure we prepared a story – translated into Hebrew by Daniele -, manual activities, dances and games. So, each day, in addition to being with the children in their regular activities (games, lunch, rest, trips and sometimes the swimming pool), we had them listen to a part of the story and we proposed activities linked to the message of the story.

In turn, two of us helped Claudia with the infants in the day care, while the others took up the challenge of being with the older children. From day to day, we learnt their names, some words in Hebrew other than the English we used to communicate with them, what amused them and what they liked to do.

We chose to dedicate this part of our vacation time to this service and with it we continue our formation, which many of us live throughout the year in school or in the parish. Doing this in another place, where there is need, and in particular in the Holy Land, helped us to live and deepen our Catholic Christian faith. God is close to us and is in the meetings we participate in. For this we can thank the community that accommodated us, those responsible, the collaborators and the families.
