Psalms – Read by Yossi Banai

Yossi Banai, renowned Israeli actor, who passed way in 2006, reads portions of the Book of Psalms, accompanied by music composed by Yonatan Bar Giora. The recording was published in 2005.

In a press interview, Yossi Banai said: "I am from a home that was originally very traditional. The psalms were and still are an integral part of who I am. From a young age I learnt the Psalms in synagogue, in school and in religion lessons. More than once, the teacher used to use us to do good deeds as ordered by the commandments and he would send us to the homes of mourners in order to read Psalms. When I was older, on the stage as an actor, but also off stage, I began to realize how much poetry there was in this magical book. The Hebrew language, as it appears in the Book of Psalms, is simply divine – so that even people who are not believers and do not relate love poetry to divinity, might find here refined poetry.
