Te Deum – A prayer of praise

In the Catholic tradition, this prayer is sung on feast days and even on Sundays. Our friend, Sharon, from the United States, sent us this link together with her warmest best wishes for 2012.

To listen here

The prayer was formulated by Saints Ambrose and Augustine in the fourth century, according to tradition. The prayer is in Latin and it begins:

te_deum

We praise thee, O God
we acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
All the earth doth worship thee
the Father everlasting.
To thee all Angels cry aloud
the Heavens, and all the Powers therein.
To thee Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry,
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth;
Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of thy glory.
