Priests' meeting – June 19, 2015


The priests of the Saint James Vicariate for Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel met on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Saint Abraham Parish in Beer Sheba.

Present at the meeting were all twelve priests, including the priests responsible for the communities in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Haifa, Nazareth, Tiberias and Beer Sheba, and both priests working with the Russian-speaking communities. This was the first time that the priests of the Hebrew speaking communities visited together the renovated premises of the Beer Sheba parish and were able to admire the excellent work done.

The meeting began with a time to share on the Gospel that will be read on Sunday, at the liturgy. This was followed by news from the different communities.

In addition the following subjects were also discussed:

- Preparations for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Work of Saint James and the 50th anniversary of the publication of Nostra Aetate at Vatican II

- The kehilla day for the Feast of Tabernacles

- The preparation of a film about the Vicariate and the kehillot

- The children camps during the summer

- The upcoming publication of a Hebrew language Catholic prayer book

- The activities of the youth group “Desert Flower”

- Retreats for priests and faithful

Following the meeting, the priests participated in the prayer and lunch organized to celebrate the renovation of the house. It was the occasion to also celebrate the birthday of the Beer Sheba parish priest, Father Piotr.
