Shavuot among the Jewish people – Sounds for the feast

The Feast of Shavuot (Weeks) among the Jewish people marks seven weeks after Passover, the Feast of the First Fruits and the Feast of the Giving of the Torah.

shavuotThe sages of Israel, after the destruction of the Temple (in the time of the Mishnah) determined that on Shavuot the giving of the Torah at Sinai is celebrated. In the Torah, Shavuot is the Feast of the First Fruits – the beginning of summer when the harvesters gather the first fruits of the fields of a land flowing with milk and honey. In synagogue, the Book of Ruth is read and many spend the entire night studying – what is known as Tikkun Leil Shavuot.
