Palm Sunday in the migrant communities


Palm Sunday was celebrated with an outpouring of joy but not always on Sunday as many migrants have to work on Sunday.

The migrants were also a big presence in the official procession for Palm Sunday that began on the Mount of Olives and made its way into the Old City on Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2015. Rhodel, coordinator of the Saint Lorenzo Ruiz Community reports: “The San Lorenzo Ruiz Community - Jerusalem and the Good Shepherd Filipino Catholic Community joined together for the celebration of Palm Sunday in Jerusalem. It was a successful celebration which shows the unity of both communities. With our joyful songs and praise, we marched towards the Old City.”palms indians beer sheba

Father Pior reports from Beer Sheba on the Indian community Eastern rite celebration of Palm Sunday that was held on Friday, March 27, 2015: “On Friday evening, the Indian community celebrated the Feast of Palm Sunday in the House of Abraham in Beer Sheba. During the Adoration, four priests heard confessions in preparation for Easter. After the Holy Hour, Father Paul (Indian priest from Jerusalem) celebrated the Eucharist in the Malayalam language. About 60 people participated in the event.”

Father Tojy, Indian chaplain, reported on a mass Palm Sunday procession that took place on the Mount of Olives on Saturday, March 28, 2015. The mass that followed was attended by over one thousand faithful.

At Our Lady Woman of Valor in Tel Aviv, a first Palm Sunday service was held in Hebrew for the children of the migrant community on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Celebrated by Father Piotr, parish priest of Beer Sheba, the ceremony included a joyful procession into the church. It was followed by four more masses for the community in south Tel Aviv.
